Went to my yet-to-be occupied anggerik apartment with RD and wife tonite - first visit there at nite after the renovation works completed last month. Their comment - its kinda far... there goes my prospective tennant
Later, headed back to KL and had supper at Jalan Doraisamy aka Asian Heritage Row. We simply call it Dorai, our usual hang out place during the collage days. Hardly go over there nowadays so its like a trip down memory lane for us.

6 Jahanam
|
|
|
There's a carnival in the neigbourhood throughout the week.
Called "Karnival 6 Jahanam", the purpose of the carnival is to address the problem of drug abuse among Malaysian youth and particularly highlihgted 6 types of commonly found drugs here (ectassy, cannabis etc). The carnival was officted by the PM tonite. Though the purpose of the event is noble, I'm still puzzle why oh why do they have to organise a grand carnival for this purpose (with expo and concert)? The money used for the carnival is better spend elsewhere...
Prolly after this they can organise another carnival that can be called "Empat Lahanat" to address the issue of corruption, nepotism, cronyism & oppression?

I got the tix for the special screening of the local film SEPET (http://www.sepet.com.my) tonite
Been pursuing Amy to join me for the movie but can’t really get hold of her - prolly she's busy at her new workplace. So off I went alone to TGV for the movie and was really surprised that the movie premiered tonite at TGV. Kinda awkward for me as I didn't expect that it would be an event with local celebrities and red carpet welcome. Worst, bumped into an old fren who was there with the new boyfriend, and I was all alone by myself for a romantic film ... (coincidently, its Capgomei today - the Chinese equivalent of Valentines Day...hmmm)
Anyway, SEPET is an enjoyable film to watch that delves into the inter-racial relationship - a love story between a Chinese boy and a Malay girl. At least there’s the consolation for me …

Taiping
|
|
Its free and easy day today so we took the opportunity to explore Taiping before headed back to KL in the afternoon. Too bad we had to endure 6 hours journey on the hihgway as msot city folks made their way back to the city after the CNY holidays...
On a good note, bumped into my parents at Sg Perak R&R when we stoped there for meal. Apparently, they also made a journey to Taiping for a wedding function..What a small world eh?

Final Leg : Via Gerik to Taiping Lake
|
|
The final day of the Amusing Race – its the third day of the race and I was already tired with the journey and wish that it would be over soon... Anyway, we left KB after breakfast (and a short interview with the local representative of a TV station – our 10 minutes of fame ).
The convoy traveled via the East-West Highway from Jeli to Gerik with a stopover at Banding Island Resort for lunch – I just love the view along the highway and Temengor Lake where Banding Island Resort is located. While filling up petrol at Banding, our convoy crossed path with a red Mercedes that also stoped at the same petrol station - the same Mercedes was later involved with a fatal accident that killed all its passengers… (Al-Fatihah. My condolence to the family of Capt. Mohd. Imran).
We reached Taiping in the late afternoon for the final task of the Amusing Race. As it’s still CNY mood, we were greated with a bang by a lion dance troupe in Taiping. Later in the evening, the finale/prize presentation of the Amusing Race was held in the hotel’s poolside. As expected, our team won the first prize – sweet revenge eh? After the diner, we made a trip to Taiping Lake Garden to visit the Taiping Night Safari for animals sighting in the dark –though its nothing much to sight here in the dark but it’s still an enjoyable outing.
| Quote: | Four Sisters Perish When Car Crashes Into Tree
IPOH, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- Four sisters, all in their 20s, were killed when their car went out of control and crashed into a tree at the 9.1km East-West Highway in Gerik Friday. They were the daughters of Kepten Mohd Imran Abdul Hamid, a commanding officer of vessel KD Pelanduk of the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) in Lumut.
Hulu Perak OCPD Supt Mahad Noor Abdullah said the dead were Intan Maziun Mohd Imran, 26, an executive officer of a private company who was driving the car, Intan Mazmin, 25, an officer of the Department of Environment in Putrajaya, Intan Syafanin Hani, 22, a third year student of Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam and Intan Syafinaz, 20, a first year student of Universiti Malaya.
He said that in the 1 pm accident, the girls were in a car that was following another car driven by their father, and they were travelling from Kota Bahru, Kelantan, to Sitiawan, Perak. The car, a Mercedes Benz E220, was a total wreck and all four were pinned to their seats. The impact hurled the engine out of its compartment.
"Three of them died on the spot while Intan Syafinaz died when being taken to the Gerik Hospital. All of them died of head injuries," he said. Mahad Noor said their bodies were sent to the Gerik Hospital. They are expected to be buried in Sitiawan.

Day 2 : From Kijal to Kota Baharu
|
|
It's the 2nd day of the Amusing Race.
Had a quick breakfast breakfast before headed to the beach for a quick sightseeing - a visit to Kijal won't complete without going to its beach I guess. Its a nice secluded private beach, prolly because its located in front of an abandoned hotel project (which made me feel like I was at a Tsunami-hit beach..) but enjoying the sea breaze here was enough consolation for me after having to cancel the beach trip recently.
We reached Kuala Terengganu around noon - the first pit stop for the day. It was raining on and off but we managed to complete the task given accordingly. Later, had a picture stop at Masjid Tengku Tengah Zaharah (the floating mosque of Kuala Terengganu) before headed to Ibai Golf Resort for lunch.
Next stop was Kota Baharu. By the time we reached there in the late afternoon everybody were really tired I guess after spending almost the entire day on the road. Luckily, we were welcomed in a grand way in KB - with Rebana Ubi performance etc - that's enough to create quite an excitement among us. Once the task was completed, headed to the hotel for our overnite stay. The view of Sg Kelantan at dusk from the hotel's patio was mesmerising.
Had our sea food dinner in a restaurant down town before going to PCB for drink as we can't make it to Wakaf Che Yeh for shopping due to traffic congestion there (and I thought traffic congestion in KL is the worst... )

Amusing Race : Day 1
|
|
I’m off for an “Amusing Race” today!
It’s a treasure hunt event (more aptly call fun hunt actually) organised by a business associate of the company where I work who invited us to join the event at the 11th hour (hence the last minute shopping trip to the mall on the eve of CNY yesterday). I guess it’s a goodwill gesture from the business associate as we invited them to join our bowling tournament last week (and they won big!) so in return they invited us to join their event as well (it’s payback time… ).
So we immediately formed a team yesterday to participate (Farin as the driver, Ash as the co-driver, Rina and me as passengers) and get the sponsorship from the Company for the event – partcipation fee, fuell, expenses etc. We also got to use the Company’s MPV – its like a paid holiday and a golden opportunity for me to explore some part of the country that I haven’t go and to click click on the way.
The Amusing Race kick-off from Shah Alam. As we rushed to the first pit stop at Temerluh (our team was the first to arrive in Temerluh), we got a call from the organiser that we are supposed to convoy with the other team (I thought this is a RACE, so amusing…). Then, when we reached Kuantan, we have to wait for an hour or so for all the team to arrive so that we can be escorted by the classic bikes to the lunch venue… Hmmm, there goes my idea of a challenging race ala Amazing Race (or at least Explorace).
Next stop was Cukai in Kemaman (again, we were the first team to arrive) before headed to the rest stop at Kijal where we spend overnite - with diner and wayang kulit / dikir barat performances. I guess we were just lucky as Rina and me won the lucky draw for the nite
Day 1 of this Amusing Race was just OK for me though I don't really have many opportunity to click click along the way - its still a race anyway, can't afford to stop for photo opportunity at my fancy ... Well I'm not complaining anyway, take it positively and enjoy this paid holiday

It’s the eve of the Chinese New Year today but I have to go for last minutes shopping spree – no, not as part of the CNY celebration but for a last minute journey that I have to make during the CNY hols.

Syoknya Le Tour
|
|
Its the finale day of Le Tour De Langkawi today.
I'm not really a cyclist like one of my fren Han (who cycle daily frm KL to his office in Damansara) but it still enjoyable to join the crowd watching the pro cyclist in action. So in between my groceries shopping, I took the opportunity to watch the action and click away.
