When the painting work over
|
|
|
I have to take leave again today as the contractor promised to come and finish his unfinish works at my rented home - some plastering and painting work etc. Actually I'm kinda piss off with the work done so far - kinda slow and not really good. The previous contractor hired by the landlord done a much better work and faster - less than 1 month for major renovation for the home.
On top of that, I have to deal with an annoying staff of GudangDuit who keep on calling me over the phone asking and complaining about little things. Feel like shouting at him as its him who send the discussion papers late yesterday when he supposed to send it over to me in the morning - the paper only arrived at 7 in the evening and I have to cancel my plan for the nite because of that ...
Well garbish in garbish out ...

now, Selamat Hari Raya already?
|
|
|
The month of Ramadhan where mulims fast from dawn till dusk will be starting next week (15/10) and followed by the Hari Raya (Eid Fitr) a month later. Ramadhan is a religious month of the year for all Muslims as apart from fasting, they must abstain from immoral behaviour and attitude (including over spending ) . The Muslims dedicate this time for inner reflection, devotion to God as well as practice of self-control.
Strangely, all those decorations on Hari Raya are already in place in departmental stores around KL as of today (read : come & do your raya shopping now!) . Hmm... just like any other religous festivals, Hari Raya (which supposed to be the celebration of victory over the tests in Ramadhan) are too commercialised nowadays......

Muor
|
|
Here are some pics taken during my trip to Muar (or Muor as pronounced by the locals) yesterday for my freind's wedding. This riverine town (also nick named Bandar Maharani - Empress Town) is located at a river's mouth or "muara" in Malay, hence the name Muar was coined from the word muara.

My fren's wedding
|
|
Off to Muar, Johore today for my freind Majid's wedding ceremony. As he is the last in the family to tie the knot so the event was held in quite a big scale. Jutst like any Johorean wedding ceremony, there was ghazal performances ( a traditional musical group ) and telur pinang (egg boiled in herbs) as the door gift, not to metioned the sumptuos and delicous dishes spread to the guests (beriani gam, ayam masak merah, acar buah, bubur pulut hitam etc).
I feel happy for my freind Majid on his wedding day, and left home feeling full

Ikan Bakar
|
|
I'm back to my hometown for the weekend..
Headed to Medan Ikan Bakar in Umbai tonite with my family for dinner - been quite sometime since I was here. As usual, had the ikan bakar (grilled fish) with nasi lemak and other side orders - otak oatk, tempura style prawns & shrimps etc. The food really yummy - hard for me to resist though I really need to control taking seafood due to my allergy - hopefully there won't be any side effect after the feast
p/s Check out Jeff's Fotopages for more info on the Medan Ikan Bakar

Mid Autumn Festival @ Mooncake Festival @ Lantern Festival
|
|
Its the mid autumn festival today - the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. As its tradition, moon cakes and lanterns are in abundance everywhere.
The festival is usually celebrated with the exchange and eating of mooncakes while for children, it is the night for carrying brightly-lit lanterns in various shapes.
| Quote: | The legends are based on history rather than religion, with one about the fall of the Yuan Dynasty under the Mongolians between 1280 and 1368AD, and the other of "Lady Moon".
In the first legend, the Mongolians from the northern part of China had caused the fall of the Song Dynasty and ill-treated the Han-Chinese.
The Chinese, who were persecuted, suppressed and made to work like slaves during the Yuan Dynasty, finally decided they had had enough, and organised groups in the many provinces throughout the country and planned a revolution against the Mongolians.
Since gatherings were forbidden and the Han-Chinese were under very strict surveillance, a man called Liu Fu Tong thought of a way around it.
He first sought and obtained permission from the Mongolian district officer to allow him to present gifts to his friends as a gesture to bless the longevity of the Mongolian emperor.
It was mid-autumn in the year 1351 and the moon was shining brightly when Liu started on his mission. Knowing Mongolians do not eat mooncakes, Liu made many sweet cakes as round as the moon, and inside each one, he slipped in a note calling on the Chinese to kill the Mongolians on the 15th night of the eighth moon.
Each home was given a cake and the family was told not to eat it until the 15th day of the eighth moon. When the day arrived, the Chinese found the slip of paper buried in the cake.
Many Mongolians, including the district officer of Ying Zhou, were killed that night.
The Yuan Dynasty ended when Zhu Yuan Zhang established the Ming Dynasty. To commemorate their victory, the Chinese kept a tradition of making and eating mooncakes every year.
Legend also has it that lanterns were used by the Chinese to signal from higher grounds that night, hence the celebration with lanterns today.
Meanwhile, the legend of the Lady Moon is more of a myth and perhaps an invention of story-tellers of the Tang Dynasty.
It is the tale of a beautiful woman named Chang Er who was born to a poor farmer and grew up as an ordinary village girl.
At 18, she was discovered by a hunter named Hou Yi who was known to be a sharp- shooter with his bow and arrow.
While passing through Chang Er's village one day, he saw her and was instantly attracted by her beauty. After a long wait, he met Chang Er and they became friends.
According to the myth, there was a day when 10 suns rose in the east instead of one and they shone so brightly that it became too hot.
Everything began drying up and people were dying of dehydration.
Hou Yi became the people's hero when he climbed up a mountain and shot down the extra nine suns with his bow and arrows, making the weather normal again.
The people made him king and he married Chang Er. After the marriage, however, Hou Yi began to change. He became very superstitious and wanted to be an immortal king.
A sorcerer told Hou Yi he could produce an elixir, but he needed many children to make it.
Hou Yi agreed, much to the frustration of Chang Er, who objected vigorously to the cruelty and inhumanity of her husband.
One night, Chang Er saw the nearly-finished elixir tablet inside a big tube. As she took it out to look at it, she was spotted by the sorcerer. She tried frantically to hide the tablet but finding no suitable place, she placed it in her mouth.
When the sorcerer demanded the return of the tablet and forced her to produce it, Chang Er accidentally swallowed it.
The alarm was raised and when the king found out, he was very angry.
The sorcerer and the king chased her and there was no way she could escape from them. So Chang Er took the final step and jumped.
Strangely, she did not fall to the ground but floated in the air, drifting skyward.
Hou Yi called for his bow and arrows and shot at Chang Er, but missed her each time. Legend has it that Chang Er had become a fairy. She kept floating into the sky until she arrived on the moon and today, she is remembered by the figure of a beautiful woman, on mooncakes. |

I have to take an emegerncy leave today as the contractor for some minor renovation works and repair at my rented home will come today to start the work. Since I was on leave, decided to settle all those errants about the house - went to the stamp duty office to legalised the rental agreement and then headed to the landlord's office to pay the rental (which was overdued ) and surrendered the new rental agreement.
My home was such in a mess when I reached home - I have to bare with this for the next couple of days (maybe weeks)
